About me, Fred Rushden

I provided my name in case I call you for information. I have been interviewed about this web site by a writer from the Syracuse newspaper, as part of a related article, this site was referenced.

For those who want to know more about who developed this site, here is my musical background. I have been in CNY community music groups since 1970, and I have been playing music since 1957 almost every year. I can play the (French) horn (my main gig), Eb alto horn, trumpet/cornet/bugle/Fluegelhorn, and (treble clef) baritone/euphonium. I own at least one of each; I also own an old trombone, but I do not play yet. Further, I've decided that can barely get a sound from a tuba--must be it requires too big an embouchure.

I have played in these concert bands/orchestras (in sequence): West Virginia University Symphonic Band, Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra, Liverpool American Legion Band, now the Liverpool Community Concert Band, Baldwinsville Community Band, Syracuse Horn Club, Auburn Chamber Orchestra, Brockport Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse University Brass Ensemble, Fulton Community Band, Lafayette Concert Band, and the Canastota Community Band. I have marched with the disbanded Liverpool American Legion Band Marching (Post 188) Unit for a few seasons and in a couple of one-off marching units, as well as the Central New York Police and Fire Band. I have also enjoyed very much playing in pit orchestras for musical theater productions of: Baldwinsville Theater Guild, Syracuse Musical Theater, The Talent Company, Baldwinsville High School, East Syracuse-Minoa High School, Fayetteville-Manlius High School, Port Byron High School, and GRBodley (Fulton) High School, as well as pick-up orchestras for local Handel Messiah Sing-Ins and brass choirs/quintets for local churches and a few sight-reading concerts for other nearby community bands (eg, Red Creek). Among other groups, I am in the CNY Police and Fire marching band, which is no longer marching, and have been playing extra with the OCSO again. I joined the Rhythm-Airs, a 17 piece (+ vocal) dance and swing band; great fun. Most recently we started the Oswego Horn Club, having as many as 12 horn players; I was assisting with our library of charts; this group unfortunately has been disbanded. I would enjoy subbing in other such groups on occasion. I have found another community band that I can play in when I visit relatives in another state. This has been great avocation for me.

I hope I am contributing to the avocation and to the communities with this site.
